Clem was born in Dalmasca to a Rabanastran mother who fled the city when she was young. Clem’s mother faced hardship and internal anguish beyond imaginable, raising her child alone whilst barely grown herself, and her despondency led her to find solace within the covert practices of the Sect of Germonique. Clem was taken to the outskirts of Dalmasca when they were seven summers of age to an encampment towards the border with Nagxia.For several years, Clem was outwardly faithful to the teachings of Germonique. As they grew through their adolescence, however, their faith began to waver as they secretly engaged with the mixed Dalmascan-Nagxian communities around them, truly beginning to understand the expectation that they’d die for their faith. Clem still adhered to the scriptures in the presence of their mother and the Sect, but Clem truly wanted to live, and they were so afraid.And so when, as Clem approached adulthood, they heard whispers of a legionnaire who’d aligned himself with the Sect, they fled. Clem wanted to live, and most of all, they wanted others to live, but they were too afraid to stay and intervene. Too cowardly, until well into their journey as Warrior of Light, and that guilt would haunt them forevermore. First, they settled in Nagxia, before finally acting on their intention to cross the treacherous waters of the Sirensong Sea.Clem has lost everything– their purpose in life, their community, and their mother. They have years of indoctrination to unpack, and pure exhaustion from over a year of running. All they know, deep within their heart, is that they want to live, free and unbound. With no path clear to them, after failing to secure work within Ul'dah or settlements across Thanalan, Clem becomes an adventurer, and that’s where their story begins.

The pair can often be found sitting together in the Rising Stones, and while Tataru carries a disproportionate load of conversation, Clem quietly listens to her gossip and musings with unspoken content. Though Clem can often be found in her presence cross-armed, bristling over confections and tea as Tataru teases them over crushes that they themselves hadn't quite recognised yet.
